Sergio Pérez aims to turn things around at Zandvoort
F1. On the eve of the Dutch Grand Prix, the Mexican driver is counting on the second half of the season to make up for a disappointing start to the year and silence the critics.
He will undoubtedly be the center of attention until the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on December 8th. Sergio Pérez has no choice. If he wants to keep his seat at Red Bull next season or at least justify that he deserves a place in a top team, the native of Guadalajara will have to significantly improve his results, as he has not been on a podium since the Chinese Grand Prix last April.
In Zandvoort, where the Dutch Grand Prix is being held this weekend, Pérez intends to reverse the trend, thanks in particular to improvements made to his car this summer.
« I have great hopes and the belief that I can turn the situation in my favor this season in the next ten races. During the summer break, we understood many things about the car and its improvements. Overall, I think we were a bit lost and now we understand much better what is happening with the car.
Max Verstappen's teammate even specifies that some recent developments on the Milton Keynes cars have not worked as they should have, which would justify the drop in form of Christian Horner's men before the summer.
« We know that there have been one or two recent developments that have set us back in the hierarchy. We have a lot of potential to exploit and we must do our best to extract it from the car. If we can do that, this season could be very good.
Directly threatened by McLaren or even Ferrari in the constructors' standings, Red Bull must be able to rely on two drivers at the front of the pack. With his recent performances, Pérez is aware that he must do better to help his team against numerous and highly competitive competition.
« I have always said that where I will end up in Abu Dhabi is the only thing that matters. So I have ten races left to improve and hope to achieve good results by being at the front. This is the goal and it really starts here. »
With 131 points in the driver's championship, less than double his teammate, Pérez is currently 7th between the two Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
