Franco Colapinto does not wish to leave Williams anytime soon. The Argentine driver has revealed that his priority is to stay within the British team's fold next season, even though the Grove team has already announced its two drivers for 2025.

Indeed, Alex Albon will team up with the Spaniard Carlos Sainz, the Ferrari driver having decided to join James Vowles' team with a multi-year contract, following the announcement of Lewis Hamilton's arrival within the Maranello structure next year. An arrival that allows Williams to have the best duo of drivers in 2025, according to the remarks of its boss during his participation in the Beyond the Grid podcast. "I think that, from a driving point of view, but also in terms of team management [off the track], we will have the best duo of drivers on the grid," rejoiced the Briton.

Impressive performances for Colapinto.

If the Williams team has already announced its two drivers, it doesn't leave any room for the Argentinian driver, who should therefore compete in his last six Grand Prix with the British team. However, the former member of the MP Motorsport team in Formula 2 hopes to remain in the Williams structure. The Argentinian says he is grateful to his boss, who gave him the opportunity when other drivers were also candidates for the position, and would like to continue this collaboration in the future. "It's very exciting that James wants to keep me in F1, and it's something I am grateful for. I want to stay at Williams, I love this team and I love their way of working. I think we should be grateful, and they were the first to give me the opportunity to drive an F1 car. I would really like to have an opportunity with this team in the future," revealed the Argentinian to some media outlets, including Planet F1.

Colapinto wants to continue his career at Williams

Comments that contradict recent statements by James Vowles. The Briton, former member of Mercedes, had shown himself open to the possibility of loaning his Argentine driver to Sauber next year, the Swiss team having not yet unveiled its second driver, on the condition that he could then get him back if there is a driver change at Williams. A deserved opportunity for the Argentine due to his convincing performances since his debut in Formula 1, where he was able to score points from his second Grand Prix with an eighth-place finish during the Baku round. However, Colapinto does not seem to want to entertain this possibility, especially as it currently seems unlikely, according to the 45-year-old team principal. The Argentine admitted that he is not yet certain about his plans for 2025, but he would like his future to be with the British team.

« I have no idea what I'm going to do next year," he announced to Autosport. « I have no idea about the options available to me, but my plan A is to stay with the team. They have invested a lot in me since I was in junior categories, and I am grateful for all of it. » Although his future in Formula 1 is still uncertain, the former Formula 2 driver prefers to focus on the present, especially the last six Grand Prix of the season where he hopes to make the most of the car.

« I try to do my best and focus on myself. The results are starting to come, which is very positive, so let's see what we can do in the next races. I think there are good races coming up for us. » Without a seat next year, the Argentine hopes nevertheless to convince his superiors that he has the talent to stay in Formula 1, and especially at Williams, if the opportunity arises in the future.
