Williams recruits McLaren's Oliver Turvey for test and development role
Williams has announced the signing of Oliver Turvey as its new test and development driver, providing additional support for regular drivers Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz.

The British driver Oliver Turvey, 37 years old, brings nearly 15 years of experience in F1, Formula E, and endurance racing to the Grove headquarters, where he will play a crucial role in advancing Williams' development programs and simulator-related operations.
This will notably include the contribution to the development of a cutting-edge driver-in-loop (DIL) simulator, which is expected to be operational later this year, as Williams continues its quest to climb up the F1 hierarchy under the leadership of the new team principal, James Vowles.

A testing and development role
In addition to a competitive career marked by victories in several single-seater championships and a triumph at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Oliver Turvey has spent the past 15 years in a testing and development role with McLaren. A graduate in engineering from the University of Cambridge, Oliver Turvey combines competitive experience and a technical background that, according to Williams, makes him particularly well-suited to contribute to the team's progress in anticipation of the major regulatory changes in 2026.
"It's an honor to have the opportunity to join such a historic and successful team," said Oliver Turvey. "I have long admired Williams, and seeing Damon Hill win the world championship with them is a moment that inspired me early in my own karting career."
« The ambition and determination driving this project are incredibly inspiring, and I am excited about the challenge ahead to help the team return to the top. It is a privilege to work alongside Alex and Carlos, whom I consider two of the best drivers in F1. »
« I am thrilled to use my experience as a driver and engineer to work closely with the team at Grove, to improve the car's performance via the simulator and to support the team during races. »
« I would like to thank James, Sven [Smeets, Williams' sporting director], and the board for their confidence in me. I will give everything I have to help the team succeed.
Sven Smeets added: “We are very happy to welcome Oliver to the team. He brings vast experience and expertise that will be invaluable for our progress as we continue to strengthen the team in all areas.”
« The role of a test and development driver is vital in our path to success, and I am convinced that Oliver, who will join Harrison Scott, will form a strong team to develop current and future cars », he concluded.
We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Oliver Turvey as the team's new Test and Development Driver 🙌
Oliver will play a pivotal role in supporting Alex and Carlos through the Williams development programmes and simulator operations.
Welcome to the team 💙
