Eiffage wins the race: French construction giant to build Madrid's urban Formula 1 circuit
The Eiffage Group, via its subsidiary Eiffage Construcción, has been selected in a consortium with Acciona to design and build the future urban Formula 1 circuit in Madrid, known as "Madring". The project, worth a total of 83.2 million euros, including 33.3 million for Eiffage, marks a new stage in the Group's commitment to high-level sports infrastructures.

A fast-paced construction site and an ambitious schedule
The work, jointly carried out by Eiffage Construcción and Acciona, will start in April 2026 for a scheduled delivery in the summer of the same year. A tight schedule of less than six months that reflects the organizers' desire to make Madrid a must-stop on the Formula 1 calendar by 2026. In addition to permanent infrastructures, the project includes the annual assembly and disassembly of temporary installations, as well as the restoration of the roads after each edition. This demanding pace, coupled with a budget of over 83 million euros, illustrates the strategic dimension of the project for the Spanish capital, which is gradually establishing itself as a hub of innovation in urban sporting events.
An expertise recognized in automotive circuits
Eiffage is not new to the field of sports infrastructure. In 2009, its subsidiary Eiffage Infraestructuras resurfaced the Jerez circuit for the MotoGP Grand Prix, a job praised by the riders for the quality of the asphalt. More recently, Eiffage Route carried out the complete renovation of the Lédenon circuit in France, including the installation of a drainage system and the application of 5,000 tons of asphalt on the track. These achievements demonstrate the group's expertise in the design and renovation of circuits that meet the demands of international competitions.
A sustainable and environmentally friendly project
The project Madring incorporates ambitious measures to minimize its environmental impact. Approximately 700,000 m³ of earth from excavation work will be reused, with 60% used on the site and 40% repurposed later. The site will prioritize the use of HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) as a biofuel for machinery, thus reducing CO₂ emissions. Additionally, a photocatalytic coating will be applied to mitigate pollutant gas emissions, and a sustainable drainage system will promote the infiltration of rainwater. The project also plans the relocation of 583 trees and the installation of 4,259 m² of mobile acoustic devices in sensitive areas.
Madrid, the Future Capital of Formula 1?
The urban circuit of Madrid, with a length of 5.47 km, aligns with the current trend in Formula 1 to incorporate urban circuits, similar to Las Vegas, Miami, or Singapore. Promoted by IFEMA Madrid, this project aims to replace the Barcelona circuit as the host of the Spanish Grand Prix starting in 2026, with a transition period where both cities will host races. This initiative reflects Madrid's ambition to become a hub for urban sporting events, combining sport, entertainment, and innovation.
