Cadillac prepares its F1 debut with an event in Miami, while driver rumors intensify
In the run-up to the unveiling of its F1 project in Miami, Cadillac is stirring up curiosity about its future driver line-up, with Sergio Pérez, Colton Herta and Zhou Guanyu as potential headliners.

Cadillac, with the support of General Motors, plans to join the Formula 1 grid in 2026. While the final approval by the FIA and FOM has not yet been officially announced, several reliable sources report that the project is making significant progress.
In this context, an exclusive event is planned for May 3rd in Miami at the Queen Miami Beach. Cadillac will take advantage of the Grand Prix weekend to unveil the colors of its future single-seater. Numerous personalities are expected to attend, including General Motors executives, IndyCar drivers, as well as movie and music stars. The car presented will be a show car created by the FIA, similar to previous presentations organized for Audi.
An active search for American pilots
Cadillac clearly wants to have at least one American driver in its duo. The main candidate mentioned is Colton Herta, a current IndyCar driver, who has the experience and profile needed to appeal to the American audience. Herta, previously mentioned in the past for other F1 projects, would be a priority target this time.
Simultaneously, Cadillac is also interested in other drivers with Formula 1 experience. Among them, Zhou Guanyu, who became a reserve driver at Ferrari after leaving Sauber, is one of the options being considered. However, no official statement or signed agreement has yet confirmed this hypothesis.
Sergio Perez in advanced discussions
The name of Sergio Perez is repeatedly mentioned in connection with the Cadillac project. According to The Times, the Mexican driver, who left Red Bull at the end of the 2024 season, is in advanced discussions with the American team to join the grid as early as 2026. The negotiations are well underway, although some financial aspects still need to be resolved.
Mario Andretti, advisor for Cadillac F1, mentioned the case of the Mexican during an ESPN podcast, simply stating that he could be an option. A cautious stance that leaves the door open to several scenarios.
Patience before a final confirmation
If Cadillac clearly displays its ambitions, many unknowns remain: the final validation by the FIA, the exact composition of the management team, as well as the driver duo. The Miami presentation could clear up some doubts, but concrete announcements will likely have to wait until summer.
In the meantime, Cadillac continues to fuel speculation and prepares for its entry into the ultra-competitive world of Formula 1, relying on the enormous power of General Motors and a strategy resolutely focused on the American market.
