After an initial appearance in Imola, then in Monaco, the brand-new C6 (soft) will return to the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, accompanied by its close cousins: the C5 (medium) and the C4 (hard).

The soft tire for qualifying

The drivers will have two sets of hard tires (marked in white), three sets of medium tires (yellow), and eight sets of soft tires (red). Intermediate tires (green) and rain tires (blue) will also be available if weather conditions require them.

A supplementary set of soft tires is reserved for drivers reaching Q3 in qualifying, while all drivers must use at least two different types of slick tires during the race if the track remains dry.

« The Gilles-Villeneuve circuit is a track where the lateral forces exerted on the tires are moderate to low, while the longitudinal forces are somewhat more pronounced, without being particularly high, due to strong deceleration phases followed by sharp accelerations », as stated in the weekend preview provided by Pirelli.

« The surface is very smooth, minimally abrasive, and the track is almost never used outside of the Grand Prix weekend. Graining may appear, particularly during free practice on Friday, but it should disappear as the track gets rubbered in. Lap times drop very quickly, not only from one day to the next but also throughout each session. »

To this is added weather as unpredictable as it is changeable, a factor often disruptive here, while the variable temperatures are another typical feature of the Montreal event.
