The new Stake F1 Team, formerly known as Sauber, is expanding its roster of young drivers. Zane Maloney, a 20-year-old Barbadian driver currently competing in Formula 2, has become a reserve driver for the Swiss team. He will also join the Sauber Academy’s young driver development program. Maloney will share his new role as reserve driver with Frenchman Th\u00e9o Pourchaire, the reigning F2 champion.<\/p>\n

Zane Maloney, who is preparing for his second season in Formula 2 with Rodin Motorsport, finished his rookie season in 10th place in the drivers’ championship after achieving four podium finishes throughout the season. He was then supported by Red Bull through their Red Bull Junior Team.<\/p>\n

Speaking about his new role and his position in the Sauber Academy, Maloney stated that he was very excited to be part of Stake F1 for 2024. (English)<\/p>\n

I am honored to join the Sauber Academy and take on the role of one of the reserve drivers for the Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber. (English)<\/p>\n

Beat Zehnder, Sauber Academy director, added following the arrival of the young Barbadian. “We are delighted to welcome Zane [Maloney] as the latest addition to the Sauber Academy. His journey in junior series has been remarkable thus far, and with his speed and potential, he certainly makes an excellent addition to our pool of talents.”<\/p>\n

In addition to his season in Formula 2, where he will aim to succeed our Th\u00e9o Pourchaire for the title, he will also share the role of reserve driver for the Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber.
