On lap 54 of the Australian Grand Prix, Kevin Magnussen violently collided with the wall, losing a wheel and causing numerous debris, one of which injured Australian spectator Will Sweet. He was sitting in a nearby grandstand close to the crash site.<\/p>\n
\u00ab Kevin Magnussen arrived at the second turn and went down the track. I followed him with my eyes, so I looked to my right, and then straight ahead, apparently some debris flew over the barrier, many people around me moved, and the debris managed to hit me right in the arm. I don’t really know what happened, \u00bb he tells Sunrise.<\/p>\n
Surprised by the size of this piece of scrap metal, around one meter in length, coming from the car’s wheel rim, he still prefers to remain positive and considers himself relieved to have avoided something worse.<\/p>\n
Honestly, I feel quite lucky. It’s not as serious as it could have been, I think,” he says. “The debris was quite large, and my fianc\u00e9e was standing right next to me. She’s slightly shorter than me, so if the debris had hit my arm, it probably would have hit her head. I’m lucky it wasn’t worse.”<\/p>\n
