The last 7 days in F1, the news hasn’t really been the most important of the year. However, there are several notable points to highlight, including the hefty fine received by Nelson Piquet (father and three-time F1 world champion). During an interview, he made homophobic and racist remarks, particularly targeting Lewis Hamilton.<\/p>\n

He was thereby condemned to pay a huge fine by a Brazilian judge<\/a> of nearly 1 million euros. Hamilton expressed his satisfaction<\/a> with this sentence on Thursday in Australia.<\/p>\n

The rest of the news concerns Stefano Domenicali’s intention to make Fridays more attractive in F1. He wants to either eliminate or make the practice sessions more competitive, by either awarding points to the top performers or implementing a qualifying system over multiple days. He reportedly mentioned to a German media outlet the possibility of having an additional qualifying session instead of the Saturday Practice sessions, particularly during a race weekend with a sprint format. It is worth noting that several drivers are in favor of these changes.<\/p>\n

The news to remember this week is also the Australian Grand Prix, which will host the third event of the 2023 F1 season. Thus, Red Bull, with its local driver Daniel Ricciardo, who is currently a reserve driver, took the opportunity to unveil an impressive video of a road trip in Australia, mixing F1, cross-country motorcycle, and off-road 4×4 vehicles, all of course driven by Red Bull sponsored pilots.<\/p>\n

Finally, Audi and Porsche wanted to return to Formula 1 but after many negotiations, first with Red Bull, then with McLaren, Porsche will abstain<\/a>. The German manufacturer failed to convince with a takeover project rather than a marketing or technical role, as Audi will do.<\/p>\n
