The Aston Martin driver explained in detail the two weeks that passed after his bicycle accident, which almost made him miss the start of the season. While the team had remained very vague about Lance Stroll’s health condition, we find out that he not only had a wrist injury but also multiple fractures.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, February 18, I had a bike accident while training in Spain. The scans showed that I had a fracture and displacement of my right wrist, a fracture in my left wrist, a partial fracture in my left hand, and finally another fracture in my right big toe.<\/p>\n

The beginning of the season approaching rapidly, the timing couldn’t have been worse. My medical team initially believed that I would not only miss the tests, but also the first races. 48 hours after my accident and 12 days before the first race, Dr. Javier Mir successfully operated on my right wrist. After the operation, he told me that I would be back for Jeddah if I worked hard and with a bit of luck, he thought I could race in Bahrain – but it was only a slim possibility.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Dr. Mir explained to me that the fractures in my hand\/wrist and left toe are not suitable for fixation and that I would need to resort to a more conservative approach to treat my other injuries. My medical team made sure that we did everything possible to aid in the healing of the bones. It has become my full-time job, trying to combine every possible help, even if it’s only by 0.5%.<\/p>\n

His fans can thus realize the extent of the injuries that required significant rehabilitation work to allow the Canadian to compete in Bahrain.<\/p>\n

At first, the progress was slow. I needed a lot of help, even with everyday tasks at home. But each day improved and when the cast was removed on the fourth day, it became possible for us to have a chance to participate in the Bahrain race. My medical team developed a program that would help me regain mobility and strength in my wrists.<\/p>\n

The rehabilitation required a lot of work and perseverance, but with an incredible medical team and the support of my friends and family, I was able to overcome the pain and get back on track in Bahrain with my team and fellow pilots.<\/p>\n

Stroll completed a physically demanding first race weekend by finishing 6th in the Grand Prix.<\/p>\n
