After two canceled editions due to Covid, F1 made its return to Melbourne last season. The circuit had been updated, including the creation of a fourth DRS zone, before the FIA ultimately decided to remove it.<\/p>\n

This year, however, the organizers are confident in finally obtaining it. This is what Andrew Westacott, head of the Australian Grand Prix organization, stated in an interview with the Australian newspaper Herald Sun. \u00ab The FIA and Formula 1 have informed me that, technically speaking, a fourth DRS zone will be implemented. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Since the introduction of DRS in 2011, this will be the first time that drivers can activate it so many times in one lap. The new DRS section is located on the Lakeside Drive stretch after turn 8. The removal of a chicane along this part of the track allows cars to reach their maximum speed.<\/p>\n

\u00ab This will obviously increase the speed and therefore reduce the lap time, making this Grand Prix the fastest and highest average speed ever recorded in Melbourne,” explains Andrew Westacott.<\/p>\n

The Australian Grand Prix will take place from March 31st to April 2nd next year and will be the third round of the calendar. Charles Leclerc’s pole lap in 1:17.868, in 2022, will be the record to beat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
