The FIA has updated its International Sporting Code during the winter break, adding a rule that prohibits drivers from making any political statements without prior authorization. This has sparked strong reactions within the paddock, as seen with Lewis Hamilton, Stefano Domenicali, and Christian Horner. Lando Norris is another member expressing his discontent following this decision.<\/p>\n
He considers a lack of trust from the FIA, who treat the drivers like schoolchildren.<\/p>\n
\u00ab We should be able to say what we want and what we believe in. We’re not at school. We shouldn’t have to ask, “Can we do this? Can we do that?” he declares.<\/p>\n
According to him, Formula 1 is a great platform to convey positive messages. This new restriction would thus be a step back from the We Race As One initiative launched in 2020, which aimed to fight for diversity and inclusion. \u00ab We do this because we have millions of fans, millions of viewers whom we want to guide and assist \u00bb.<\/p>\n
\u00ab We should be able to say and do what we want. […] It’s what defines us, what makes us human beings. We’re just trying to help and advise people in the world, and there’s no reason why we can’t do it,” Norris emphasizes. \u00bb<\/p>\n
He still hopes that the criticism will help to make the situation evolve. \u00ab There are things that you want to do and say that may not be allowed.
