Having only collected 8 points during the 2022 season, former Williams team boss Jost Capito hopes that the team will be able to take a big step forward in the upcoming season. He believes that if they fail to do so, something is wrong within the team.<\/p>\n
Over the past five years, the Formula 1 team has recorded disastrous performances, not to mention the 2021 season in which the team finished in eighth position in the constructors’ championship. This season, drivers Alexander Albon, Nicholas Latifi, and Nyck de Vries managed to scrape together a few points, but not enough to escape last place in the constructors’ standings. Capito will leave the team’s management at the end of the 2023 season, and prior to that, he admitted that the main reason for the failure in 2022 was the team’s decision to stop the development of the FW22 car too early.<\/p>\n

When you see that the gap between ninth and eighth place is too significant, it makes no sense to continue developing this year’s car. You would then be tenth and miss the opportunity to start working on next year’s car.<\/p>\n
He continues: \u00ab So, when we realized that we would be tenth, regardless of the gap, we put everything into next year’s car. We did it shortly after the major update at Silverstone. \u00bb<\/p>\n
Regarding the 2023 season, Jost Capito knows that the team will have to do much better to avoid finishing once again in last place in the standings.<\/p>\n
