So 5th with a significant lead over Fernando Alonso, two laps before the end of the Belgian Grand Prix this Sunday, Charles Leclerc was offered a very ambitious attempt for the fastest lap in the race.<\/p>\n
The Scuderia Ferrari thus asked Leclerc to come into the pit on the penultimate lap in order to put on new tires and attempt to set the fastest lap in the race and snatch an extra point from Max Verstappen’s grasp.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately for the Scuderia, their pit stop took a little longer than expected and Leclerc came out of the pits side by side with Alonso, being overtaken on the straight and losing any chance of completing a clean lap to set the fastest time of the day.<\/p>\n
If Leclerc was able to regain his rightful place on Alonso’s Alpine on the last lap, he nonetheless lost it a few minutes later when the FIA warned Scuderia Ferrari that Leclerc had been driving too fast in the pits during his last pit stop.<\/p>\n
Flashed at 81 km\/h instead of the maximum authorized 80 km\/h, Leclerc receives a 5 second penalty added to his time at the finish and therefore loses his 5th place to Fernando Alonso.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
