While it is one of the iconic venues in motorsport and notably known as one of the few circuits that runs anti-clockwise, the Imola circuit has just signed an agreement with Formula 1 to secure a spot on the calendar until 2025!<\/p>\n
Imola returned to the calendar in 2020 in order to make up for the lack of Grand Prix races due to the various cancellations during the Covid-19 health crisis. It is located in the city of Imola but is named Circuit Enzo e Dino Ferrari in tribute to the founder of the prancing horse brand.<\/p>\n
Officially traversed by Formula 1 cars for the first time in 1980, the Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit in Imola had previously hosted a Formula 1 race in 1979, outside of the F1 World Championship. It then hosted the San Marino Grand Prix from 1981 to 2006. Its return to the 2020 calendar marked a 14-year absence.<\/p>\n
In 2021 and 2022, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, as it is called, continues to be included in the Formula 1 calendar and remains a beloved event by both drivers and spectators.<\/p>\n
Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of the Automobile Club of Italy, is very happy about this contract: today’s agreement extends Imola’s presence until 2025. Its long and strong history with international motor sports deserves this recognition. This is not only a good thing for the Italian territory, but also for the international motorsport community, as it welcomes one of the most challenging and beloved tracks for drivers.<\/p>\n
Second race on Italian soil, it will continue to be held alongside the Italian Grand Prix and its Monza circuit for at least three years.<\/p>\n
The Formula 1 calendar in 2022 is not yet fully complete as the cancellation of the Russian Grand Prix, which was confirmed last week, leaves a vacant spot for another event.
