Ricciardo: “I am optimistic for tomorrow”
Relegated to more than two seconds behind at the end of FP2, the Australian is not worried about the rest of the weekend and remains confident about Renault's chances of reaching Q3.

At the end of a disappointing FP2 session for the Australian and Renault with the 12th and 14th fastest times, the former Red Bull driver remains confident and notes that the day’s conditions significantly contributed to his mixed performance.
“The track is very slippery,” states Daniel Ricciardo. Just like his fellow drivers, the troubles related to grip did not spare him. Understeer, oversteer, undesirable behaviors were not lacking.
« Our stint on soft tires was a bit difficult, particularly due to the high track temperatures, and we lacked performance. »
Although realistic, it must be acknowledged that under these summer conditions, the tires are clearly at the center of the debates. On the other hand, it is necessary to remember that track conditions can change.
With a probable absence of rain, the trajectory will be erased as the various categories pass, allowing the F1 cars to improve their grip and attack possibilities.
« Our place is in Q3 and we should be », asserts the Australian driver who, as usual, remains optimistic.
« The day was positive, although the timesheets may not reflect the actual feel of the car ».
Equipped with an extra boost of power with the implementation of the “Spec-B” on his single-seater, the Australian invites us to assess the evolution of the performance tomorrow.

With red tires struggling and only one set of medium tires in stock for the Australian, there’s no doubt that the rest of the weekend looks complicated for the Renault driver if today’s conditions remain in effect.
