Monaco: A tribute to Niki Lauda before the start
Formula 1 will pay tribute to Niki Lauda before the start of the Monaco Grand Prix, who passed away last Monday. It invites spectators to wear a red cap and applaud during the formation lap to honor the memory of the Austrian.

The Formula 1 paddock remains deeply affected by the news of Niki Lauda’s passing last Monday. The Austrian was a legend in the sport, and it has decided to pay him a final tribute before the start of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Formula 1, the FIA, and the Automobile Club de Monaco invite spectators at the Grand Prix to wear a red cap, applaud, and wave banners during the formation lap to honor the memory of the triple Austrian world champion. The 20 drivers, team principals, and representatives of the FIA and Formula 1 will also wear a red cap on the starting grid during a minute of silence.

In their own way, the teams also paid tribute to Niki Lauda by modifying the livery of their cars. Mercedes painted its halo red and the team members are all wearing a black armband. Other teams have inscribed the Austrian’s name or photo on their bodywork.
