Silverstone gets a makeover

For the second time in two years, Silverstone will resurface its track, which was heavily criticized last year.

Last season, Silverstone reported a complete resurfacing of its track. But the results were far from the expected effect. Lewis Hamilton, who is a fan of the track, had stated: “The people they hired did the worst job ever. It’s the bumpiest track I’ve ever driven on. It’s bumpier than the Nordschleife, which is 100 years old. It makes your eyeballs vibrate. Aside from that, it’s fantastic but my god, they have to hire someone better. I don’t know how you can do such a bad job resurfacing a track.”

But the British circuit had drunk the cup to the dregs last August when the rain was cited as the main reason for the MotoGP race. One can only be surprised, as this weather phenomenon is so frequent in this region…

Two months before the 2019 edition of its F1 Grand Prix, Silverstone announced that extensive work would take place during the month of June, as stated by its general manager Stuart Pringle: Achieving this required a lot of work from the Silverstone staff, but we have all been fully focused on ensuring we make the right decisions to secure the future of our most important events, Formula 1 and MotoGP.

In order to avoid further criticism, she also changed suppliers and secured the services of Jarno Zaffelli, a circuit design specialist who has worked on tracks like Monza, Sepang, and Zandvoort.

This outpouring of energy and investments is also set against a backdrop where the future of the circuit in F1 is not yet secured. Even though some journalists claimed last month that an agreement had been reached, the circuit has officially denied it. At present, Silverstone still does not have a guaranteed spot on next season’s calendar. Conversely, it is now official that the contract with MotoGP has been extended until the 2021 edition.
