After a disappointing season with Williams F1 Team at the helm of a ridiculously underperforming car, the SMP Racing protégé is heading to endurance racing with the Russian team, SMP Racing.

It’s a new beginning for Sergey Sirotkin, who will now occupy car no. 17 in the WEC, replacing Jenson Button, who prefers to focus on the Super GT championship.

The Russian driver will take part in the endurance championship for the last three races, namely:

– les 1 000km de Sebring le 17 Mars 2019 aux États-Unis.

– les 6h de Spa-Francorchamps le 4 mai 2019 en Belgique.

– les 24h du Mans le 16 Juin 2019 en France.

Perhaps this excursion in WEC will allow Sirotkin to bounce back to the top category of motorsport later, as he expressed the wish at the twilight of his 2018 season…

The main party states: « I am very happy to have the honor of defending the colors of the Russian flag on the Russian prototype within the Russian team SMP Racing in the World Endurance Championship. We have remarkable training and excellent cars with which, I am sure, we can fight for victory, including at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.»
