For some time now, McLaren has been undergoing a large number of internal shake-ups. Andreas Seidl is the latest arrival in the British team. He will take on the role of team principal, thus overseeing all sporting aspects of the team. The 43-year-old German will assume his new responsibilities at the start of the 2019 season. This is good news for the Woking-based structure, which, following the dismissal of Eric Boullier, did not have any real leadership for the team.

Seidl is no stranger to the premier category of motorsport as he worked at BMW Sauber from 2006 to 2009 as operations director. More recently, he was the head of the WEC program at Porsche in LMP1.

The changes are being felt at McLaren at the management level with the appointment of Zak Brown as CEO and Gil de Ferran as Sporting Director. The latter will now be more withdrawn from Formula 1 and will focus more on McLaren’s program for the Indianapolis 500 with Fernando Alonso.

The new CEO of McLaren, Andreas Seidl, states: « It is a huge privilege and a challenge I am ready to embrace. Having the opportunity to contribute to McLaren’s legacy is extremely special and inspiring.

McLaren has the vision, leadership, and experience, but the most important thing is to bring people back to the forefront. That will be my absolute goal and mission. I can’t wait to join the team and start working with my colleagues at McLaren, our Renault partners, and, of course, Carlos and Lando.
