In recent days, the increasingly persistent rumors left little room for doubt. It is now official, Robert Kubica will be a driver for Williams in 2019!

The Pole, who had been away from Formula 1 since his terrible accident during a rally in Italy in 2011, will therefore make his return to the British team with George Russell as a teammate.

This is the culmination of a long journey for the ex-Renault driver who finally sees all his efforts rewarded: Of course, the road has been long to get to this point, but as this challenge ends now with this announcement, a new challenge begins with Williams. It won’t be easy, but with the hard work and dedication that George and I will show, we will work together to help the team get into better shape and progress higher on the grid. This year has been difficult, but I have learned a lot and I would like to thank Sir Frank and Claire for this opportunity.

An obvious choice for Claire Williams, who appreciated Kubica’s work in the shadows during the 2018 season: Throughout this season, his commitment to the team and the work he has done behind the scenes have been impressive, and he has become an established and highly respected member of the Williams team. He has a remarkable level of determination and truly embodies the fighting spirit of Williams. Having Robert in this new role will be an important step for us as we seek to make our way to the front of the pack. I’m also delighted to have a mix of youth and experience for 2019 and we look forward to seeing what they can achieve on the track. I would also like to thank Lance and Sergey for their hard work during a challenging season. We wish them all the best for their future careers.
