Bob Fernley joins McLaren in IndyCar
The former sporting director of Force India, Bob Fernley, will join the ranks of McLaren in IndyCar. He will oversee Fernando Alonso's participation in the Indianapolis 500.

McLaren announced the recruitment of Bob Fernley in IndyCar to support Fernando Alonso in America.
On the other hand, Fernley will in no way have an impact on McLaren’s Formula 1 division. The British team intends to differentiate its division in the premier category of motorsport from its IndyCar division.
The English businessman will be asked to create a team entirely dedicated to McLaren’s 2019 IndyCar season and to prepare the Woking team’s future in the long term.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown encourages this decision: Bob is a fantastic operator and someone I have enormous respect for. His experience and leadership will be essential for us in this project. He is particularly skilled in building effective teams and extracting maximum performance with limited resources. The Indy 500 is not an easy race, and Bob will play a key role. So I’m thrilled that he’s participating in the program.
Bob Fernley resigned from his position as director of Force India following the purchase of the Silverstone-based team by a consortium led by Lawrence Stroll. The Canadian had decided to replace him with Otmar Szafnauer.
