Zandvoort on the calendar in 2020?

The Zandvoort circuit has received an offer from the FIA to return to the Formula 1 calendar. A Grand Prix could be organized there as early as the 2020 season.

According to our colleagues from the Dutch daily newspaper De Telegraaf, a Grand Prix in the Netherlands should reappear as early as 2020. A first since 1985.

The Zandvoort track is important for Formula 1 as it hosted the event in 1952 and on many other occasions until 1985.

This proposal from the FIA is most certainly influenced by Max Verstappen’s strong popularity with fans. It should be noted that the 2016 edition of the “Jumbo Racedagen driven by Max Verstappen,” an event organized by the young Dutch driver’s sponsor in Zandvoort, drew over 100,000 spectators!

Bernhard van Oranje, owner of the circuit, cannot see missing out on such an opportunity: “If we sign now, the Netherlands will have a Grand Prix again in 2020, with Max Verstappen. Everyone knows that this is a unique opportunity.”

If this announcement proved true, then the number of races in 2020 could rise to 23! Indeed, we also recently learned that Vietnam would host a Grand Prix in 2020. This significant increase in race weekends would be problematic for the teams, as it would considerably increase their workload and costs.
