Fernando Alonso “extremely happy” with his performance at Silverstone
Once again starting outside the Top 10 to finish in the points, Fernando Alonso is satisfied with his race at Silverstone and the progress made by McLaren in recent weeks.

Unflappable both in his driving and his behavior outside of his car, Fernando Alonso seems impervious to the changes within the McLaren team in recent days with the departure of Eric Boullier and the promotion of Gil de Ferran.
After a difficult Saturday and a disappointing qualifying session, the double world champion once again finishes in the points with a convincing 8th position: « As I said yesterday [Saturday], I think Saturday is our lowest point of the weekend, definitely, on Sunday, it seems that we can be in the group with Renault, Haas, Force India. On Saturday, we struggle a bit more, so we need to focus on this area in the upcoming Grand Prix. »
Rarely did the Spaniard have any complaints about his team or engine supplier after a race. Clearly, Alonso was fully satisfied with his day: “We know this is a power-sensitive circuit, but we had the speed on the straights, it wasn’t a problem. The speed and reliability were good this weekend. Definitely, extremely happy. A tough day on track, many safety cars that mixed things up a bit. We decided to pit for Soft tires at the end of the race and I think it was a big advantage compared to the drivers we were fighting with. They were on old Medium or Hard tires. So we were able to overtake a few cars. We had some battles with Kevin [Magnussen] which probably slowed our pace a bit too much…but yes, starting P13, finishing P8, it’s great for us.”
Enough to be optimistic for the future within McLaren: « We have more points for the team, which is great, but we hope to be able to achieve this position in the future thanks to our own performance. » Alonso concluded.
