Shake-up in the F1 world: Toro Rosso axes Gasly and recalls Kvyat!

Disappointing since his debut as a starter six months ago, Pierre Gasly has not convinced Toro Rosso. Last in the qualifications in Melbourne, the modest performance in Australia was the last straw: Franz Tost replaces the Frenchman with Daniil Kvyat!

ATTENTION, APRIL FOOL’S

Kvyat ousted by Verstappen at Red Bull, Kvyat sidelined by Gasly at Toro Rosso… such was the sad outcome of the Russian’s first stint in Formula 1. But today, luck is once again smiling on the driver who has 72 Grand Prix starts. Disappointed by Gasly’s qualification in Melbourne and eager to score as many points as possible before further engine failures, the Toro Rosso team has decided to bring him back in place of Pierre Gasly! A nice twist of fate for someone temporarily sidelined after the 2017 Japanese Grand Prix in favor of the French driver.

Such a decision may be surprising, Daniil Kvyat had become a development driver at Ferrari at the start of this 2018 season. However, Toro Rosso reached an agreement with the prancing horse brand allowing the team to reclaim the driver for a few races, according to the official statement.

For his part, Brendon Hartley keeps his seat, despite finishing fifteenth at the Australian Grand Prix (last classified!). However, persistent rumors suggest his own replacement by Karun Chandhok. A former Formula 1 driver (11 starts) who became a consultant for the English channel Channel 4, the Indian driver also went through the Red Bull Junior Team in the early 2010s before being unceremoniously dismissed by Helmut Marko. The names of Jaime Alguersuari or Jean-Eric Vergne are also mentioned internally to take the place in the second Toro Rosso.

Pierre Gasly has not yet commented, unlike Daniil Kvyat who was quick to react: I’m going to take this opportunity to drive again in F1, Toro Rosso needs me today, who knows where I will be tomorrow.

The appointment is set for the Bahrain Grand Prix in a week to witness the return of the “Russian torpedo.”

If such news catches your attention, don’t forget to check your calendar… Happy April Fool’s Day to all and

to everyone 😉
