Official: FIA unveils the Gen2 Formula E car at the Geneva Motor Show
The International Automobile Federation unveiled the new and second generation of Formula E this morning. This new single-seater will replace the current generation starting next season, marking the fifth year of existence for the discipline.

It’s not even eight o’clock when the FIA, with ABB now as the title sponsor of the discipline, launch the presentation of the new generation of the electric single-seater. The president of the International Automobile Federation, Jean Todt, was present for the occasion, as well as Alejandro Agag, the founder of the discipline.
The two men praised the merits of a discipline that is gaining momentum year after year, especially the ecological and environmental preservation aspect that comes with its 100% electric nature. With this new generation, Formula E should enhance its image, with a radical, sharp car design that evokes the Batmobile itself, as Alejandro Agag emphasizes.

In line with Formula 1 and Formula 2, Formula E also receives the Halo.
Apart from the new design, the technical and technological aspects are also evolving significantly. The aim was simple: to be able to cover twice the distance the current generation can handle in a race. This major evolution is possible thanks to the new batteries capable of such feats, and as Jean Todt mentions, “It’s incredible to see the progress made in four years; being able to gain power and double the electric range is incredible.”
During the presentation, a figure from Formula 1 is visible, Zak Brown, executive director of McLaren, and for good reason, McLaren Technology Group is the manufacturer of the batteries for this new generation. Honored during the presentation by Mr. Todt and Mr. Agag, the manufacturers and the team directors of the discipline were present this Tuesday morning in Geneva.
Quickly, in the coming weeks, the teams will unveil the liveries on their new cars and tests will be scheduled. In the meantime, discover the technical specifications of this second generation here.
