Romain Grosjean “close to Q3” but not unhappy with the Haas performance

The drivers of the American team delivered a satisfactory performance in qualifying after rather disappointing practice sessions, but Romain Grosjean felt capable of doing better. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic and, like his teammate, sees the possibility of scoring points in the race tomorrow.

The American single-seater came to life, so to speak, during qualifying after rather disappointing practice sessions. The team managed to make up the gap it had observed, first at the end of the first day and then after the final practice session this morning. The qualifying result is not what was expected, but the Frenchman and the Dane are satisfied.

Ranked 12th in Q2, Romain Grosjean just missed out on Q3 by 146 thousandths but maintains a positive mindset: “We are very close to Q3, so it shows that it’s never out of reach. It was very tight, I lost a bit of time in the last corner. We’re not too bad where we are, we’ll have a set of new tires tomorrow and that’s not a bad thing. It’s going to be a long race tomorrow, and a lot can happen. No one really has information on tire degradation, and from the few laps I did yesterday with a lot of fuel, the car felt okay. I’m looking forward to it.”

Ranked 13th in Q2, Kévin Magnussen allows Haas to achieve a grouped start for the starting grid « The qualification was correct. In the last run, I wasn’t able to get all the right sectors, which is disappointing. I don’t think it would have changed much, but it’s never good when you can’t put everything together. In the end, the gap was too significant, and only Romain was able to do something. It’s not a bad position to fight for points tomorrow, and we should be capable of it. »
