Gasly could replace Buemi for the New York e-Prix
Currently racing in Super Formula, Pierre Gasly is the best placed to replace Sébastien Buemi at the double e-Prix in New York. The Swiss driver will be unable to travel to America due to his commitment to Toyota in the WEC.

GP2 champion 2016, Pierre Gasly is set to replace Sébastien Buemi for the race weekend in New York on July 15 and 16. At the same time, the Renault e.Dams driver is indeed committed to competing in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) round at Nürburgring.
The young French driver who was part of the Dams team in GP2 (2015 season) spent the 24 Hours of Le Mans weekend at the team’s facilities, near the circuit. Additionally, since both Buemi and Gasly are supported by Red Bull, the Austrian structure does not seem to disagree with this replacement. Initially, the 21-year-old from Normandy was supposed to be present with the Red Bull team as the third driver for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, which takes place on the same weekend.
The aim of this replacement is mainly to allow Sébastien Buemi to lose as few points as possible in the championship, where he holds a 31-point lead over his closest pursuer, Lucas Di Grassi.
The co-founder of the Formula E team e-Dams Jean-Paul Driot refused to give the name of Buemi’s replacement but still stated that it was a quality driver who has no experience in Formula E.
The French team, which has won all the constructors’ championships since the championship’s inception, originally wanted to hire Scott Speed. The American has already competed in four races in the championship during the 2014-2015 season, for the Andretti team. However, engaged in Global Rallycross in the United States, he will not be released by his team… which is none other than the Andretti structure!
Regarding Buemi, only one possibility was allowed for Toyota to release him during the 6 Hours of Nürburgring: that the Japanese brand win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Which it failed to do. The confirmation of Buemi being replaced by Gasly should be announced later in the month.
