ePrix de Paris: Update on the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ rankings

Sébastien Buemi takes off in the drivers' championship. The Swiss driver took full points after his pole-victory double on Saturday in Paris. He thus extends his lead over his main rival Lucas Di Grassi. In the Constructors' standings, too, Renault e.Dams has taken the lead, after its rivals ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport scored zero points on the day.

Sébastien Buemi and Renault e.Dams continue to write their story in the all-electric discipline. The Swiss driver clinched his eleventh personal victory in Formula E, the fifth this season in six rounds, and the 14th victory for Renault e.Dams. Despite the Mexican hiccup, the former Toro Rosso driver has still not relinquished the lead in the Championship. Unlike last year – at the same period – when he was 11 points behind Lucas Di Grassi, the winner at the Invalides track.

The years follow one another but are not alike. The Swiss driver clinched pole position and won the race, which allowed him to add 28 points to his tally, widening the overall gap to 43 points over Di Grassi. As a reminder, Buemi will likely not be present in July for the two events in New York. At the same time, the 6 Hours of Nürburgring in WEC takes place, a championship in which he is tied to Toyota. In other words, all points are good to take for him until then.

In third position is Nicolas Prost, more than 74 points behind his teammate and 31 points behind Lucas Di Grassi. Nick Heidfeld ranks fourth and surpasses Jean-Eric Vergne in this ranking, thanks to his two consecutive podiums in Monaco and Paris. The native of Pontoise faces another setback after his withdrawal last week following a collision with Nelson Piquet Jr. At Les Invalides, after coming close to pole position, a steering column issue stopped him in his quest for victory at home.

In the same vein of climbing up the rankings, José Maria Lopez moves up two positions thanks to his first podium in the discipline. His teammate, Sam Bird, consoled himself with earning the point for the fastest lap in the race, evidence of DS Virgin Racing’s good form.

A notable entry worth highlighting in the points is that of Tom Dillmann for his first participation at the wheel of a Venturi Formula E. He was replacing Maro Engel, who had commitments in the DTM championship, just like Loïc Duval this weekend.

Regarding the teams, a similar observation, Renault e.dams continues its progress thanks to its driver duo. Sébastien Buemi wins but Nicolas Prost brings valuable points to his team. At the end of this sixth round, the French team has a 75-point lead over its competitor ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport, which scored zero points. In third place, we find the Indian team Mahindra Racing, buoyed by Nick Heidfeld’s two consecutive podiums and the significant points brought in by Felix Rosenqvist, who finished fourth on Saturday.
