Alexander Albon moves up to GP2 at ART Grand Prix
Smooth evolution for the GP3 runner-up: he continues his progression to GP2 with the French ART Grand Prix team.

Alexander Albon was one of the revelations of the 2016 GP3 season. Although he arrived with modest credentials (7th in European F3 in 2015) but having been part of the Red Bull (2012) and Lotus (2013) development programs, he quickly acclimatized to GP3. He was helped by joining the best team on the grid, ART Grand Prix.
He fought until the last race with his teammate, Charles Leclerc, to ultimately concede after four wins and three podiums. Sébastien Philippe, the team’s director, is full of praise for the Thai driver: « In GP3 in 2016, Alex exceeded all of ART Grand Prix’s expectations by immediately integrating into the company and fighting for pole positions and wins from the very first weekend of the season. He didn’t need any adaptation to become one of the best drivers in the category, and he continued to make progress throughout the year. »
In this context, progressing to GP2 was therefore logical. It will be even more facilitated as he stays with the same team, as confirmed by his director: « Alex quickly had everything needed to become a GP2 driver for ART Grand Prix and we are delighted to continue our collaboration for another year. It is necessary to continue the path from GP3 to GP2 and ART Grand Prix will work with Alex at every step to provide him with all the technical support he will need to compete at the front. »
He will therefore be alongside Nobuharu Matsushita, who has already been confirmed for a third season.
