The Formula 1 teams will kick off their winter testing sessions in Barcelona from February 27 to March 2, and then from March 7 to 10. The FIA has confirmed the dates for the 2017 season’s private tests. The tests will take place after the Bahrain Grand Prix on April 18 and 19, as well as after the Hungarian Grand Prix on August 1 and 2.

Despite a stalemate in 2015, the Silverstone circuit had hosted private tests during the season since 2012. This will not be the case this year, as it is ultimately the Hungaroring that will take its place this year.

Let us recall that these tests allow teams to freely test anything they want on their cars, the only constraint being that drivers who have raced in fewer than three Grand Prix must participate for at least two of the four days comprised in these tests.

The FIA has also agreed to grant two testing days to the teams and Pirelli in order to test the 2018 tires. These tests will take place after the last Grand Prix of the 2017 season, in Abu Dhabi, on November 28 and 29. These last two test days are made possible by an extended deadline to make a choice among these tires granted to Pirelli. However, it should be noted that the tire architecture must be finalized before September 1.

In conclusion, the Italian brand has also been granted a comprehensive tire testing program spanning 25 days, which have yet to be defined. To date, 8 teams have agreed to participate, while only Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull responded to Pirelli’s call during the 2016 season. Although all the information gathered during these tests was shared with the entire grid, these three teams were still able to enjoy significant track time with the vehicles meeting the 2017 regulations.
