Romain Grosjean’s point saves Haas F1 Team’s home race honour

In the first home race for an American team in over 30 years, the Haas F1 Team and Romain Grosjean, the only survivor, came home in tenth place, benefiting from the multiple retirements ahead of them.

For Grosjean’s 100th Grand Prix, there is satisfaction with this tenth-place finish. These are still his first points since the Austrian Grand Prix last July, where he achieved a nice seventh place.

In any case, he was pleased that their strategy worked in Austin: « It didn’t go too badly today. (…) We tried to adopt an aggressive strategy, which worked quite well, so I’m happy. »

He continued his remarks by saying he was happy for the team and the public to have secured this tenth place: « It’s wonderful to score a point in front of our crowd. I am very happy about that and for the team. »

The former Lotus driver is all the more pleased to end his personal drought mentioned above: « It had been a long time since we scored points. It’s obviously a good thing to be able to score points at the end of the season. » The location and timing were certainly suitable for the new centenarian of Formula 1, who did not miss the opportunity to pose with his team:

However, mirroring the difficult start to the weekend, Esteban Gutierrez’s American team did not have an equally enthusiastic end. The culprit was a failure of the front left brake, which forced him to retire.

The Mexican was disappointed not to be able to reach the finish, but he wanted to remain positive ahead of his Grand Prix in Mexico next weekend.

« A disappointing home race. I want to thank everyone for their unwavering support, as we really wanted to achieve a better result here in Austin. »

The former Sauber competitor could find reasons to be disappointed, as his race start was quite promising with a good start and a battle to enter the top ten.

He relates about this: « Everything had started well, we were able to optimize our results obtained in qualifying by getting a good start. The first stint was very strong, and we managed to get into the Top 10. »

But on the sixteenth lap, the hopes of a good race shattered just as his brakes gave out.

« Unfortunately, a brake issue ended our race. It’s not what we wanted, but we must keep working hard for the Mexican Grand Prix. »

Günther Steiner, principal director of the Haas team summarized this weekend with the following words: « a half-happy ending ».

Despite Esteban Gutiérrez’s retirement, he was pleased with the point scored by Romain Grosjean.

« Romain is in the points: it’s something fantastic; especially when you know where we started from and how difficult the start of the weekend was! Esteban was unlucky. He was doing a good job when he experienced another brake disc failure. »

The team will investigate to try to understand what really happened to the Mexican’s car and to prevent it from happening again. Let’s recall that Grosjean has already experienced such a mishap in the past, notably in Singapore and Sepang.

In summary, the point secured by Romain Grosjean allows the Haas team to remain eighth in the constructors’ championship and keep the Renault team, which is in ninth place, at a distance. However, Haas has lost ground to the seventh place in the constructors’ championship, with Carlos Sainz finishing sixth. The main goal for Gene Haas’s team will be to address the reliability issues of their various components at all costs in order to have three more consistent final races…
