Ricciardo is pleased to be “not so far” from the Mercedes and Ferraris
The outcome was mixed for Red Bull: Daniel Ricciardo delighted his home crowd by securing an impressive fourth place. However, Daniil Kvyat, cursed in Melbourne, had to withdraw even before the start.

Daniel Ricciardo may not have made it to the podium in Melbourne, but he could be very pleased with a solid fourth place: « I had a lot of fun today. (…) I had a good car with me which only increased my joy. At the start, we were able to overtake a few cars. We had a good rhythm with a lot of fuel on super-soft tires and it was nice to be able to overtake. (…) Fourth is a good result and I’m happy to see that we are not that far from Mercedes and Ferrari » rejoiced the Australian, who still finished fifteen seconds behind Sebastian Vettel.
If Ricciardo is laughing, his teammate has reasons to lament: his presence in Melbourne, as in 2015, was purely symbolic. An electrical problem indeed prevented Daniil Kvyat from starting: « I think Australia doesn’t seem to be the luckiest place for me so far. The car just shut off – I guess it didn’t want to race today. » His team director has another theory: « Dany seems cursed in Melbourne ».
