For many years, Williams has established a dedicated subsidiary aiming to apply its expertise developed in Formula 1 to other sectors. One of these areas of expertise is clearly related to hybrid and electric technologies in a broad sense.

This is how a partnership had previously been established with Porsche or Jaguar. The latter partnership resulted in the joint development of the electric supercar C-X75, even though the British manufacturer eventually abandoned the project before its commercialization.

For its return to competition, Jaguar has decided to rely on the expertise of Williams, who was the sole supplier of Formula E batteries for the first two seasons of the category. Williams will therefore be in charge of the operational management of the Jaguar team, but its role will not be limited to this, as it will also be involved in the research and development phase of the single-seater.

For Jaguar, this return to competition goes beyond mere participation in an international event. Indeed, the now subsidiary of the Tata group aims to acquire the necessary expertise for the development of electric vehicles for its grand touring cars, as explained by Nick Rogers, the director of engineering at Jaguar Land Rover: *Jaguar is proud to announce its return to competition. We are at the forefront of pioneering technology. In the next five years, we will see more changes in the automotive world than in the last three decades. The future involves being connected, electrification, and lightweight architectures. Formula E allows us to develop and test technologies under extreme conditions.*

It is in this context that we better understand how motorsports serve as a giant laboratory for various manufacturers, rather than just a corporate communication exercise. This is exactly the same logic followed by groups like Toyota, which use Le Mans to showcase their expertise in hybrid technology.
