Mexico has not returned to F1 since 1992, but this year, the world of F1 made a comeback with great success in the stands. During this weekend, Sergio Perez was the star in the paddock.

In the race, the Mexican driver from Force India finishes in 8th place, a result slightly below his recent performances. However, Nico Hülkenberg’s teammate holds an incredible memory of this very special weekend, as he already explained during Friday’s session: “I want to give something to celebrate this Sunday to all the Mexican fans who come to the circuit this week.”

During the qualifying session, Sergio Perez set the 9th fastest time, ahead of Nico Hülkenberg, to the cheers of his compatriots, as he explained on the official F1 website: “I felt very privileged to be able to drive at home today and to feel the support of the fans. They give me a lot of energy and I am extremely motivated to give them something to celebrate this weekend, which is the best way to reward them.”

However, the race did not go as he wished because the former McLaren driver finished in 8th place, just behind his teammate, due to a one-stop strategy compromised by the safety car caused by Sebastian Vettel: « Today’s race was probably one of the most difficult of my career. Preserving my tires and finishing 8th is probably one of my best performances in Formula One ».
