Montreal bids to host an ePrix
Already the host of a Formula 1 Grand Prix, the city of Montreal is now officially a candidate to host an ePrix. It hopes to hold its event in the fall of 2016.

Less than a year ago, Denis Coderre expressed the wish to organize an ePrix in his city. The current mayor wants to hold it in downtown Montreal, around the Olympic Stadium starting in the fall of the 2016 season to celebrate the 375th anniversary of the city’s founding.
Montreal thus paid €100,000 to Formula E Holdings for registration fees, and the city’s delegates met with the organizers of the championship in London. According to Journal métro, the amount paid is intended to cover the application fees required by the organization to identify an urban circuit, analyze the application file, and conduct the necessary assessments.
The mayor of the city expressed in a paper obtained by the local newspaper La Presse: « The city of Montreal aims to be the capital of electrification in North America. For some time now, actions have been undertaken in this regard. For example, there are now charging stations in the public domain, as well as a request for the implementation of an electric car-sharing system ».
In the document prepared by the city, the Joliette native aspires to see Montreal as an essential stop in the world of Formula E: « The municipal administration wishes for the city of Montreal to submit its candidacy to become a must-see in the Formula E championship. The FIA Formula E Championship is a motor racing championship using Formula E single-seaters, the only championship using vehicles powered by an electric motor.
Montreal is competing with Lugano in Switzerland for the last remaining spot in Formula E for next season.
