Towards a Penalty at Monza for Red Bull Drivers?

Red Bull believes Monza is the best circuit to change the engine since the Austrian team thinks it can achieve a good result in Singapore. Christian Horner is therefore considering a possible engine change in Italy.

During the Belgian Grand Prix, Daniil Kvyat made a remarkable comeback, finishing in 4th place while Daniel Ricciardo, who was on the podium for a time, was forced to retire when his engine shut down. During the weekend at Spa, both Red Bull drivers used end-of-life power units.

Formula 1 will make a stop at Monza in just under two weeks. At the Italian circuit, Red Bull is considering changing the engine units of its two cars to achieve a result in Singapore. However, this presents the issue that if the engines are changed, both Red Bull drivers will start far back on the grid.

Christian Horner spoke on Motorsport about this hypothesis: I am almost certain we will use new engines in our cars, given the number of races we have left. When we get to Singapore, we don’t want to use old engines, it’s our only chance to get a result.

Last weekend, Red Bull hoped to secure a new podium with Daniel Ricciardo, but he had to retire due to a mechanical problem, which Christian Horner regrets: « *It’s unfortunate for Daniel Ricciardo because, with Daniil, they were on the same strategy with soft tires. However, Daniel was in a better position. I think the podium was well within reach with the guys who were ahead of him* ».

The Australian driver had a chaotic weekend, which was not the case for Daniil Kvyat who started 12th and finished 4th in the Grand Prix. The English race director paid tribute to the Russian driver: « I believe Daniil had a solid race. I think our strategy was the best, starting on soft tires, continuing on medium tires, and finishing on soft tires. Starting from 12th place and finishing 4th is very satisfying ».
