Hamilton has always kept Rosberg under control
Mercedes secured a new one-two finish at Spa this Sunday. After a poor start, Nico Rosberg gradually closed the gap on Lewis Hamilton. However, the Englishman insists he never feared his teammate's comeback.

Lewis Hamilton secures a 6th victory this season and puts Nico Rosberg more than one win behind in the standings. Even though the German closed in by a few seconds during the race, the Englishman insists he always had the race under control: « This victory gives me particular pleasure. I had an excellent pace in the car and the balance was fantastic. I never felt under pressure. After the pit stops, I eased off a bit on the out laps and Nico caught up, but I always had a comfortable gap. »
Nico Rosberg’s ambitions became complicated right from the start: the world vice-champion missed his take-off, slipping in second gear, and found himself 6th at La Source: « Unfortunately, I ruined my start. Maybe the additional formation lap had an influence. We need to find out what really happened but, in any case, I really need to improve this aspect for Monza. »
Rosberg was nonetheless quite fast in race pace, reducing his gap with Lewis Hamilton from 8 to 3 seconds throughout the 44 laps: « I was able to recover second place and close the gap a little with Lewis – but I never got close enough to have the opportunity to overtake him. He deserved to win today. »
Paddy Lowe, the Executive Director for the technical department, also had a word for the surprise guest on the podium, the Frenchman Romain Grosjean: « It is extremely pleasing to see a podium with three Mercedes engines. Congratulations to Lotus. Certainly, this is a powerful encouragement for a team that hasn’t experienced the easiest times recently, so well done to them. »
