Nine months ago now, at the 2014 Suzuka Grand Prix, Jules Bianchi was seriously injured and urgently hospitalized in Japan. Since returning to Nice, the young French talent is still in a serious condition, as confirmed by his father Philippe to France Info.

« It’s unbearable, it’s a daily torture, sometimes we feel like we’re going crazy because, for me, it’s certainly more terrible than if he had stayed in the accident. Because we don’t have the power to help him more than we are able to » confided Philippe Bianchi. « In general, progress should be made in the first 6 months and now it’s been 9 months and Jules is still not awake and there are no significant improvements. As time passes, it makes me less optimistic than I was two or three months after the accident when we could hope for better progress. »

Jules Bianchi still receives strong support on social media, particularly with the hashtag #ForzaJules. We apologize as we’ve received so many messages that we can’t respond to everyone. But we do receive the support. It gives us enormous energy and it certainly gave Jules enormous energy.

The father of the former Marussia driver does not know how to interpret certain gestures of his son, who sometimes seems to shake his hand. When you are in this situation, you cling to anything. It’s hard to get up in the morning telling yourself that you’re not sure if your son will live, and every day is like that. At some point, you also have to keep your feet on the ground and realize the seriousness of the situation.

He remembers: We had an extremely brilliant son, who lived his passion, who traveled to every country in the world, and overnight this son whom you spoke to every day on the phone ended up on a hospital bed between life and death.

Finally, Philippe Bianchi confesses his apprehensions about the potential awakening from the coma of Jules Bianchi: « If he were to have very severe disabilities, we are convinced that it’s not at all what Jules would want. We had talked about it. He had told us that if he ever had an accident like that of Michael Schumacher, and if he had even just the handicap of not being able to drive anymore, he would find it very difficult to live with. Because it was his life. »
