What will Formula 1 look like in 2016? By officially revealing next year’s calendar for the first time (though still provisional), the FIA has outlined the main features of the season: with 21 races planned, a new record should be set – which is likely to displease teams already complaining about an overloaded schedule.

First of all, we will have to wait until April 3 to see another Formula 1 Grand Prix. This later date was chosen to give more research and development time to the teams. It’s also worth noting that Malaysia, which was previously the second GP, is moved to September, right after its neighbor Singapore. As for the Russian Grand Prix, it is brought forward to May.

The only new destination on the calendar will be a Grand Prix of Europe that is quite baroque: a race in Azerbaijan, on July 17. The German Grand Prix, in Hockenheim, and the Italian one, in Monza, are thankfully maintained. As in 2014 and 2015, the Yas Marina circuit will serve as the conclusion to an already record-breaking season.

The provisional F1 calendar (2016 season):

April 3 – Australia (Melbourne)
