Monaco and Senna are two names inseparable from the history of motorsport. The six Formula 1 Grand Prix won by Ayrton Senna between 1987 and 1993 still hold the record for victories in the premier category on this legendary circuit.

Interviewed on the official Formula E site, Bruno Senna admits that his family’s history will inevitably weigh on his shoulders when he gets into his single-seater. “I think Ayrton’s past makes this race very special for me. I still have plenty of memories of him on the highest step of this podium. The first time I stood on the podium myself as a driver, I thought of him (in 2008 for his GP2 victory).”

The Brazilian driver indeed emphasizes that this victory in GP2 was a great moment in his career. In his entire track record, this victory in 2008 is the most beautiful of all, he declared. This track really provides unique sensations, it was truly a strong memory to add another Senna victory to the list of winners.

But beyond the emotion, the Brazilian driver of the Mahindra team will remain focused on his objective of advancing in the Formula E drivers’ hierarchy. Last time in Long Beach, my team and I had a productive weekend without major issues, which hadn’t been the case so far this season. I think we have found good avenues for development since then.

The nephew of the three-time world champion does not hide his impatience about the imminence of this prestigious race: “I can’t wait to be there, most of the drivers know this track well from having raced there before. Everyone will give their best: no matter the discipline, Monaco is a race we all want to win!”

When asked about the modification of the original track, Bruno Senna nevertheless emphasizes that the challenge will remain difficult to overtake competitors: « It will be very difficult to pass on the new section because turn 3 will be a very tight hairpin, so it will be almost impossible to pass on the inside.»

Thus, like the Formula 1 Grand Prix, the Monaco E-Prix promises to be a real headache for overtaking: « The best place to overtake will certainly be on the classic part of the circuit, at the Rascasse corner.»

As a reminder, Bruno Senna is currently ranked 10th in the drivers’ championship, with a total of 28 points. With two modest 5th places as his best results, there is no doubt that Monaco represents a golden opportunity for the Brazilian driver to achieve a great performance…
