Spanish Grand Prix: 10% discount for all FFSA license holders

The Spanish Grand Prix attracts many French people every year. The race organizers and the FFSA reached an agreement yesterday aimed at attracting even more, notably through promotions for French license holders.

Since France no longer has a Grand Prix, two races mainly attract French supporters: Monaco, of course, but also Barcelona. As Salvador Servia, general manager of the Circuit de Catalunya, concedes with some humor, Spain has a Formula 1 Grand Prix, but we don’t know if it will remain united; France is stable but doesn’t have a Grand Prix: we are therefore made to get along.

The Montmelo circuit furthermore benefits from an ideal location (1.5 hours by car from the border, and 30 minutes from the center of Barcelona), while being efficiently served by rail, road, or air. In 2014, 10,000 French spectators attended the Mercedes double in Catalonia.

In order to increase this figure this year, during the Grand Prix taking place from May 8 to 10 (during the second holiday weekend of the month), the organizers have decided to multiply promotional offers. At the FFSA headquarters yesterday, during a press conference we attended, Mr. Salvador Servia and Mr. Dominique Serieys, general director of the FFSA, announced the conclusion of a more than interesting agreement for the 60,000 members of the Fédération Française de Sport Automobile: they will benefit from a 10% discount on ticket prices, as well as on VIP products.

This commercial operation is part of a large initiative deployed by the organizers to fill the stands at the Grand Prix to the fullest, even though organizing a race will remain, no matter what, according to Mr. Servia, an inherently unprofitable activity (the recent troubles of the German Grand Prix can attest to this). The starting price in Spain is very accessible: €130 for a general admission ticket for all three days (€104 with various promotions combined).

Purchasing a ticket for the Grand Prix will also grant access to numerous other events, including passes for the two test days scheduled for May 13 and 14, following the race. Outside of Formula 1, buyers can also enjoy a 20% discount for visiting the FC Barcelona museum, or get free entry to the 2015 International Motor Show, which will be held in Barcelona from May 9 to 17.

Nearly 550,000 spectators attended events at the Catalonia circuit in 2014, including 205,680 for the F1 Grand Prix (and 163,045 for the Moto GP). There is no doubt that the 25th consecutive edition of the race next May will attract a large French contingent once again.
