Abu Dhabi – Day 1: Gasly already shows his skills
The official tests for this new season of GP2 resumed on Monday at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. Alexander Rossi and Pierre Gasly took turns leading the two sessions held throughout the day.
During the morning session, the teams worked on the aerodynamics of their single-seaters. This year, the DRS will equip all 26 cars, a first for the championship organized by Bruno Michel. Alexander Rossi set the fastest time of this session at 1:50.835, ahead of the Frenchman and Alex Lynn.
Raffaele Marciello is fourth ahead of Daniel De Jong and Mitch Evans. Nathanael Berthon is ninth ahead of Arthur Pic. Meanwhile, Norman Nato finishes in 24th place.
In the afternoon, the track activity was more intense, and the session was dominated by two Frenchmen. Second this morning, Gasly increased the pace to set an impressive 1:48.897 ahead of Arthur Pic. They were followed by the two Trident drivers, Raffaele Marciello and Rene Binder. The session was interrupted in the last hour when Julian Leal had to stop at turn 17.
