Brundle: McLaren will deliver sooner or later
Yesterday, McLaren announced the absence of Fernando Alonso for the first Grand Prix of the season in Melbourne. Bad news that should not overshadow the real issues of the British team, which never managed to consistently run laps with its latest creation.

If the accident involving the Iberian double world champion remains surrounded by questions, it must not interfere with the work of the Woking engineers, who must undertake a true race against time to make the MP4-30 reliable.
« Alonso’s absence is not McLaren’s main problem, » explains Martin Brundle, consultant for Sky Sports and former driver for Woking. « Their biggest issue is making the car fast and reliable. Magnussen was their driver last year, so it won’t impact their performance. He will seize this opportunity; he was on the podium last year in Melbourne. »
Despite everything, Brundle believes that McLaren will progress quickly and may only have to wait a few Grand Prix before finding themselves fighting at the front of the pack.
« I have the impression that the McLaren chassis is good, even if they haven’t been able to use it well yet. One should never underestimate Honda, » he adds. « Sooner or later, everything will work, and with drivers like Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso, or even Kevin Magnussen, they will have everything they need. »
