The race for the GP2 title promises to be one of the best in recent years. Indeed, the F1 feeder series is full of title contenders: Stoffel Vandoorne at ART, Pierre Gasly and Alex Lynn at DAMS, Rafaele Marciello at Trident, even Arthur Pic at Campos…

Alexander Rossi can only be added to this list. Indeed, the American driver has solid F1 experience, having been a test driver for Caterham and then Marussia since 2011. Nevertheless, he has never managed to complete a full season in GP2: last year, he left Caterham during the sale by Tony Fernandes.

Two possibilities were available to him: give up on his future in Europe, like Conor Daly, or find a seat in GP2 to stay in the European spotlight. He chose the second option: « After my 2014 season as a reserve driver for Caterham and Marussia, it is well known that I paid close attention to my various options for 2015, both in Europe and the United States. I spent the majority of my career in Europe, building my experience and strong relationships there. My ultimate goal has never changed and remains F1. GP2 with Racing Engineering is the perfect combination for these career choices. »

2015 proves to be crucial for the Californian driver: if he manages to win the title, he would be in an ideal position to negotiate joining Gene Haas’s team, which could then appear as a “real” American team, with a driver who has proven himself in the junior categories.

Alfonso de Orleans-Bourbon, the president of the Racing Engineering team, does not beat around the bush regarding his ambitions for the upcoming season: “I am delighted that Alex Rossi is joining us for this season because he has the talent and teamwork to lead the drivers’ championship this season.”

The show in the ring thus promises to be more than promising.
