Symonds: Bottas can become world champion
While Valtteri Bottas does not hide his ambition for the coming years, Pat Symonds believes that the Finn can make it and that he can become F1 world champion.

The Williams F1 team’s technical director, Pat Symonds, has no doubt that Valtteri Bottas will become a Formula 1 world champion in the coming years. During the last season, the Finnish driver stood on the podium six times and thus finished fourth in the World Drivers’ Championship.
Symonds remains convinced that Bottas’s potential is immense and he tells Autosport that he has everything necessary to become world champion: « I’m really impressed with him. He’s very resourceful, he’s very fast, he doesn’t make many mistakes, and when he does, he learns from them. He has a great personality and is a true team member, and I’m absolutely convinced he has the potential to become world champion. »
Symonds believes that it’s not just Bottas’ speed that makes him excellent, but his other qualities that give him the stature of a future champion: « It is certainly not the only thing [his speed]. It’s not being fast that wins you a world championship because a lot of people are fast. It’s intelligence, it’s application, thinking about things, the hard work that’s put forward, attention to detail, these are the things that win you the championship. »
