After a 2014 season without any points, for the first time in its history in Formula 1, the Sauber F1 team approaches 2015 with the goal of returning to the points. The Sauber C34-Ferrari will thus have a clear objective for the 2015 season, with a renewed driver lineup: finish in the top 10 at the end of a Grand Prix at least once.

Despite the disappointing year of 2014, the team’s owner Peter Sauber renews his confidence in Monisha Kaltenborn, explaining, as quoted by Blick, that she fights like a lioness at the head of the team based in Hinwil, Switzerland.

For the 2015 season, the drivers present in 2014, namely Adrian Sutil, Esteban Gutierrez, Giedo van der Garde, Sergey Sirotkin, and Simona de Silvestro, have not been retained. This year, Sauber has decided to place their trust in Marcus Ericsson, arriving from Caterham, Felipe Nasr – arriving from Williams – and Raffaele Marciello – a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy.

The common point between these three drivers is their financial contribution to the Sauber F1 team – indeed, Ericsson and Nasr would bring nearly 42 million euros to the Swiss team according to Blick. Marcus Ericsson is notably supported by Tetra Pak and Felipe Nasr by Banco do Brasil, while Raffaele Marciello’s placement, supported by Ferrari, would allow Sauber, in return, to save a little over 8 million euros on the bill for the power unit provided by the Italian engine supplier.
