Williams’ Head of Performance, Rob Smedley, joined Grove last winter from Scuderia Ferrari. According to him, the necessary structures have been put in place for Williams to be in a position to win a title in the coming years.

« I think we have done about 30% of the way, I would say. I think we have consolidated and organized the group we have, the technical group is very good. Even within this organization, we are always in a learning phase. I think we can improve on what we are currently doing, it’s clear. There is still room for improvement, we have consolidated the group and we need to make different decisions to move forward. That’s why we have done 25 to 30% of the way, » explains the Briton, quoted by Crash.net.

Rob Smedley explains that good foundations have been laid by Sir Frank and Claire Williams’ team: « We have a strong group, we have been able to lay the foundations. It’s like when you build a house, you lay the bases and you always have to continue and you keep watching the house grow, especially if you pay for it. Then, when the foundations are laid, you have to lay the bases and you set up and you see everything take shape. »

He continues on the developmental steps missing at Williams: « We can accelerate the development of people, areas, structures, departments. All of this can happen much more quickly because we have all worked together for a year. We all understand what we do, and each role is connected to each team member. Things are going to happen much faster, so now we need to reach the end of next year, and we should be 70 to 80% of the way there by then. »
