The last title for Scuderia Ferrari dates back to 2008 when Felipe Massa and Kimi Räikkönen contributed to the Constructors’ championship of the Prancing Horse brand. The last drivers’ title for a man in red dates back to 2007, when Kimi Räikkönen won against the two McLaren drivers of the time, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.
The Spanish driver – who is leaving Ferrari after 5 years – believes that his former team will be one of the major forces in 2015 despite a year without victories for the first time since 1993.
From the outside now, it will be difficult to judge what Ferrari is doing, but they have talented people, they have the resources, they have the motivation of everyone in the team, so they will succeed in winning. I think what they’ve lacked in the past five years is simply a bit more performance in the car, and technical resources in themselves. They haven’t been at the top level in some aspects of the car at times, in aerodynamics at the start, and now at the power unit level. [But with] the budget they have, next year they will be favorites because every year the favorite at the start of the season is Ferrari. They need to be: everyone expects to see Ferrari win in Formula 1. Next year, they will be strong, Alonso told Autosport.
