Formula E – Official: Jean-Eric Vergne with Andretti Autosport in Punta del Este
A few days after announcing his departure from Toro Rosso, Jean-Eric Vergne stated that he would race in Formula E for Team Andretti at the Punta del Este ePrix.

After completing his third and, for the moment, last season of Formula 1 for Toro Rosso and not being renewed for 2015, the French driver Jean-Eric Vergne has found refuge in the Formula E championship.
The Parisian will indeed race in the next ePrix this Saturday in Punta del Este, Uruguay, driving a car for the Andretti Autosport team, led by Michael Andretti. He announced it on Twitter.
« It’s not often that you can race at this time of year. I’m really looking forward to seizing this opportunity, especially because of its location in a place like Punta del Este. Even though I have no experience in this new series, I’m excited about the prospect of racing in Formula E, and for such a prestigious team as Andretti, » he said on the official site of the discipline.
« As always, the main goal of the weekend will be to stay at the front and end the year on a positive note. The weekend will be a bit like a journey into the unknown, but it’s a journey I’m looking forward to! »
For his part, Michael Andretti is delighted to have been able to attract the former member of the Red Bull program: “We are really excited to put JEV in the car for Punta del Este. He has great talent and we believe he will pair well with our team to achieve good results. I also think that having the interest and participation of respected F1 drivers shows the great strength and true potential of Formula E as a category and World Championship.”
Jean-Eric Vergne will line up alongside another Frenchman, Franck Montagny. He is the third driver to team up with the Canal+ consultant this season, after Charles Pic in Beijing and Matthew Brabham in Putrajaya.
The choice to align with Andretti is reminiscent of the fact that, since announcing his departure, the Frenchman has expressed a desire to race in IndyCar. Moreover, Michael Andretti is also the director of a team in the American discipline.
